Rural Water Delivery

In June of 1994, our department passed a "Tanker Shuttle Test" that was conducted by the Underwriters Survey, and we obtained a water delivery rating of 500 gallons of water per minute, over a two hour period, within a five mile distance from the Fire Hall. Basically, if you reside within this distance from the Fire Hall, your Fire insurance rating should be "Hydrant Protected" or equivalent. I have spoken to several insurance companies, and many of them will offer this rating to you.
Some insurance companies are offering a reduction to all residents of the former Townships of Oxford-on-Rideau and South Gower, and some companies are offering a discount to customers who reside or own property within a 5 mile area, an 8 mile area, and some are extending the coverage as far as 10 miles from the Fire Hall. I would encourage you to contact your broker, to see where you stand with your coverage.
This is a relatively new topic for the insurance industry, as there are only a few fire departments who have this credit. Not all insurance companies that I contacted are going to participate in this reduction, as they indicate that they are already offering lower than usual rates.
Take this letter to your broker for a reference if you wish, and if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
