Solid Waste Collection & FAQs

The Municipality of North Grenville provides curb side pick-up for household solid waste (garbage) throughout the Municipality.  All solid waste placed curb side for collection must have a bag tag attached.  The cost of a bag tag is applied directly to the cost of collecting and disposing of solid waste.  The more you recycle the less solid waste you will produce, reducing your bag tag costs.

Garbage ContainersDo I have to have the Municipality pick up my garbage?

All solid waste must be disposed of properly.  You may self haul your solid waste to the Oxford Mills Waste Transfer Station.  Your solid waste must either be properly tagged with bag tags or material will be weighed and charged accordingly.  It is illegal to dump solid waste in any area other than a licensed landfill or transfer station.  Fines for illegal dumping are $180.00 minimum.  It is also illegal to burn garbage as it creates noxious and toxic fumes that are hazardous to you and the environment.  Fines for illegal burning of solid waste are $250.00 minimum.  For more information or to report an offence, please call the By-law Enforcement Officer at 613.258.9569 ext. 119.

When is my garbage collected?

North Grenville is divided into 5 zones for pick up. As per By-law 10-09, items for collection must be placed close (max 10ft) from the edge of the road between 7pm the night before and 7am the day of collection. For more information or to determine your pickup day see the Solid Waste and Recycling Guide and Maps.

How do I use a bag tag?

Attach a bag tag to each solid waste bag put out for collection.  If using a solid waste container the bag tag must be attached to the first bag under the lid.

What containers/bags are accepted?

Bags must not be larger than 127 litres (28 Imp. Gal.) and 30” x 36” in size.

As per By-law 10-09A and the Ministry of Labour, solid waste containers and bags must not weigh more than 18.14 Kg or 50 lbs.

How much do bag tags cost?

Bag tags are $1.75 each and are sold in packets of 8.  The cost of a bag tag is applied directly to the cost of collecting and disposing of solid waste.  The more you recycle the less solid waste you will produce, reducing your bag tags costs.

What about large items such as a refrigerator or stove?

Large items are not collected at the curb side and must be taken to a licensed facility. They may be self-hauled to the Oxford Mills Waste Transfer Station where posted rates will apply.
