North Grenville is recruiting for a Custodian (part-time) to work within the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department.

Situated between Canada’s National Capital - Ottawa and the St. Lawrence River, North Grenville offers a unique urban experience with a blend of small town and rural culture. North Grenville is a growing municipality located in eastern Ontario comprised of an urban centre (Kemptville) and surrounded by several charming rural hamlets.

Only a 30-minute drive along the Veterans Memorial Highway (416), to either Ottawa or the 401 Corridor, providing ease of travel.

The Municipality of North Grenville is seeking to fill part-time position of Custodian in the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department. Typical shifts will be Saturday and Sunday mornings, 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Responsibilities:

The position will:

• Clean municipal facilities employing proper methods in accordance with approved standards using proper and adequate equipment, tools and supplies. (mopping, sweeping, floor maintenance, window cleaning, washroom cleanliness)
• Monitor and report as necessary, the attendance and use of the facilities to lead hand.
• Monitor operation of facility equipment/fixtures such as boilers, water heaters, mechanical systems etc. and report problems arising.
• Work with little to no supervision at remote facilities. E.g. Fire hall, Library, Private Blake Williamson Memorial Hall (Armoury), Maplewood Hall and Riverside Park pool building.
• Maintain facility entrances free of snow, ice, litter, etc. and maintain adequate documentation.
• Ensure proper disposal of garbage/refuse/recycling in accordance with Municipal By-laws/procedures and department policy.
• Monitor restricted parking and report problems/emergencies.
• Assist user groups and other approved organizations in the provision of resource support when directed.
• Complete room set-ups including the lifting of tables, chairs and related office equipment.
• Respond to any facility emergencies while on shift or problems which may occur and complete the appropriate action and reports.
• Promote good public relations giving the Municipality of North Grenville a positive public image through its facilities and services.
• Ensure that the facility users comply with municipal policies, provincial codes, acts and legislation related to the facility bookings.
• Be aware of and follow the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
• Attend related training and development as required.

Qualifications:

The position will require:

Essential (minimum) Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Valid Class “G” Driver’s Licensed.
• Basic knowledge of the operation of heating systems, electrical and plumbing systems.
• WHMIS, First Aid and CPR training.
• One (1) year of experience in custodial services in a public facility is required.

Asset (preferred) Qualifications:

• Demonstrated interpersonal and team skills.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
• Effective communication skills.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and team skills.

Compensation:

The salary for this position starts at $23.82/hour. Includes after office hours including evenings and/or weekends, as necessary.
