Housing Strategy

cannabisNorth Grenville Housing Strategy

As a result of the Mayor’s Task Force on Affordable Housing, formed in 2020, the Municipality of North Grenville is developing a comprehensive Housing Strategy to examine the Municipality’s role in encouraging a more diverse housing supply, including affordable housing. The Housing Strategy will focus on ensuring policies and initiatives are supportive of the development of housing across the entire housing continuum to help ensure the needs of current and future residents are met. The Housing Strategy will identify the current and emerging housing needs and develop a toolbox of policies, processes and tools to encourage the development of housing that meets these needs.

The Housing Strategy is also meant to assist Municipal Council with decision-making, help Municipal Staff to coordinate with other agencies and levels of government on housing matters, and to raise public awareness of housing issues and opportunities in North Grenville.

This Housing Strategy builds on the Municipality of Grenville’s existing Affordable Housing Strategy, prepared in January 2021, the United Counties of Leeds & Grenville’s 10-Year Housing and Homelessness Plan, and other housing-related initiatives undertaken by the Municipality and County.

The Housing Strategy is being carried out in three stages:

  1.  Identifying the need for housing across the housing continuum
  2. Identifying the Municipality’s role in the provision of a diverse range of housing options
  3. Developing solutions

The study is currently in the first phase, which will include public and key stakeholder engagements in early 2022.
