NORTH GRENVILLE, ON – In honour of the invaluable contributions that volunteers make every day and every year in our community, North Grenville’s Council has declared National Volunteer Week in North Grenville, April 24 – 30, 2022.

“During National Volunteer Week, Council wishes to thank all volunteers in North Grenville for their time and their talents. Through countless hours of volunteer work, they are making our community stronger,” said Mayor Nancy Peckford and Councillor Doreen O’Sullivan in a joint statement.

The National Volunteer Week theme for 2022, ‘Volunteering is Empathy in Action’ highlights the kindness and caring so many volunteers offer throughout Canada. Volunteering is no doubt an act of empathy as we have the chance to see the world through the eyes of others.

The national campaign emphasizes that “volunteering connects people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences, and has the power to expand our views. It can build our capacity to work collectively and contribute to a vibrant, inclusive society. This profound human connection is at the heart of healthier individuals and stronger communities.

“As we emerge from the hardest years of the pandemic, we can see that the spirit of volunteerism is alive and well in North Grenville. We recognize the versatility and dedication that so many volunteers demonstrated over the past number of years, and we look forward to seeing a robust volunteer network moving forward,” noted Mayor Peckford and Councillor O’Sullivan.

“There are many new opportunities to volunteer in North Grenville, including the forthcoming International Plowing Match in September which will host up to 75,000 people. On behalf of the Municipality, we wish to thank all those new and seasoned volunteers. This community continues to show what we can accomplish with compassion, creativity, and collaboration,” they added.
