Highlights from the February 18, 2020 Council Meeting

Police Services Board: The North Grenville Police Services Board presented the results of the Community Survey. Over 700 residents responded to the survey with the top priorities being, sexual assault, impaired driving, physical attack, elder abuse, domestic violence, and break-ins to homes. The survey will help the Police Services Board, Grenville OPP and North Grenville Council define local priorities.

Easter Seals Month: Council proclaimed March 2020 as Easter Seals Month to raise awareness for kids with physical disabilities, and encourages residents to support the Easter Seals campaign. 

Council proclaims Van Turken Day: After a lone turkey wandering through Kemptville sparked local interest and generated local, regional and national media, and at the request of residents, Council proclaimed the 2nd Saturday in February “Van Turken Day” as a way for people to come together once a year to celebrate and remember Van Turken the turkey.   

Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan: Council approved the Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan that will help shape priorities for the next ten years. Council will host at Discussion Forum in May to discuss the implementation of the plan. The Master Plan is available on the Municipal website.

Kemptville Live Music Week: Council proclaimed July 17 – 26, 2020 as Kemptville Live Music Week, to coincide with Kemptville Live Music Festival (July 23 -26, 2020). This will be an opportunity for local businesses to promote themselves to the thousands of festival goers who come to Kemptville during the festival. The Community and Economic Development Advisory Committee will facilitate with the business community so they are aware of the economic opportunity they can leverage related to the event.

Health and Wellness Expo: Council endorsed a Health and Wellness Expo being proposed on Saturday, May 23, 2020 to provide awareness raising initiatives for North Grenville residents related to health, wellbeing and fitness. This event is being organized by the Health, Wellness and Fitness Advisory Committee.

Public Discussion Forum: The Future of Waste Management in North Grenville, Tuesday, February 25 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at Maplewood Hall, 92 Maplewood St., Oxford Mills. 

Special Daytime Committee of the Whole meetings are now live streamed and archived. Meetings will be held Wednesday, March 4 and 11th at 2:30 pm. The schedule and live stream can be found on the Municipal website.

Upcoming Meetings: Committee of the Whole meetings March 3 and 10th, and Council meeting, March 17. All meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Municipal Centre located at 285 County Rd 44, Kemptville and live streamed via the Municipal website.
