“Council understands that this is, very clearly, an uncertain and challenging time for everyone in our community,” noted Mayor Nancy Peckford.
Consequently, we are pleased to announce the following measures have been adopted, effective immediately:
- The payment deadline for the Interim Property Taxes Bill (for residences and businesses) has been extended until June 30, 2020, and all new penalty and interest charges will be waived. Interim taxes were initially due on March 31, 2020.
- The payment deadline for Water Bills that will be issued by the Municipality in early April has been extended to June 30, 2020. Late fees and interest charges that would normally apply will be waived until June 30, 2020.
- Annual dog permits will be maintained at the current fee of $15 until June 30, 2020, thereby deferring a scheduled rate increase until July 2020. An annual dog license is required for every dog and can be obtained via our secure on-line process at northgrenville.ca.
“Core municipal services, including fire protection, water and wastewater treatment, waste management (garbage and recycling collection), building permits and inspections, planning applications, bylaw services as well as road, trails and facilities maintenance, are fully operational at this time,” added CAO Gary Dyke.
In order to continue weekly curbside waste collection and recycling, the bag tag program will remain in place for now.
“However, local service organizations are able to help,” added Deputy Mayor Jim McManaman. “The Knights of Columbus will offer and deliver bag tags to residents who, for any financial or logistical reason, simply cannot obtain them.”
Further, over 25,000 bag tags have been delivered by municipal staff to grocery and other retail stores who sell them at $1.75 each. Customers can include the purchase of bag tags as part of an electronic financial transaction. Bag tags can also be included in pick up or delivery orders with grocery stores who carry them.
Finally, North Grenville’s Emergency Control Group is frequently meeting to monitor and respond to developments as required.
