Statement by Mayor Nancy Peckford on Earth Day

April 22, 2020

NORTH GRENVILLE - Mayor Nancy Peckford issued the following statement on Earth Day.

“Today marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, a day that global citizens come together to celebrate and appreciate the Earth's natural environment.

We are so fortunate to live in an area with so many natural assets. Time in nature is good for our health and wellbeing, and protecting the environment is a priority for our community.

While the COVID-19 pandemic means we have to mark Earth Day differently than in previous years, I encourage residents to celebrate Earth Day by taking small actions from home, by watching a nature documentary, planting some seeds for a garden, to taking note of the birds that visit your backyard or neighbourhood.

On behalf of Council, thank you to all those who have also made efforts to clean up and beautify their local neighbourhoods or near by trails.

On Earth Day, and everyday, let’s never take our access to our natural assets, and a healthy environment, for granted. Our quality of life here in North Grenville is that much richer because of it. "
