We would like to thank you for your incredible contributions and sacrifice as frontline health care workers in hospitals, clinics and public health units.
Nurses Week in 2020 coincides with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, and 2020 is, in fact, the 200th anniversary of Nightingale's birth.
In the words of my Council colleague Doreen O’Sullivan who has been a registered nurse for over 40 years: ‘When the World Health Organization (WHO) proclaimed 2020 the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, little did they know the significance nurses would have saving lives during the COVID-19 pandemic.’
Nursing is one of those professions that has touched the lives of everyone. In the Municipality of North Grenville, Councillor Doreen O’Sullivan is a registered nurse, Eunice Dyke, the great Aunt of the Municipality’s new CAO Gary Dyke, was a pioneer in public Health in Ontario, and Councillor Strackerjan’s late mother was also a registered nurse.
Council encourages all North Grenville’s residents to please take a moment this week to recognize all the hard work nurses do for our community every single day.
As has been the case every Monday at 730 p.m, don’t forget to make some noise in support of our frontline workers, and extend a big thank you to healthcare workers, first responders, grocery store, retirement and nursing home staff and other essential employees who are keeping our community safe each and every day!”
