Statement by Mayor Nancy Peckford in Honour of Police Week 2020

May 14, 2020

NORTH GRENVILLE - Mayor Nancy Peckford issued the following statement in honour of Police Week, May 10-16, 2020:

“North Grenville’s Municipal Council would like to take this opportunity to thank our local Grenville OPP Detachment, including all the men and women officers, as well as crucial support staff, for their hard and tireless work to keep our community safe, especially through these unprecedented times.

Police Week is a celebration of the work our frontline police officers, 9-1-1 dispatchers, civilian staff and other members of the policing community. We want to extend our appreciation for everything they do to keep North Grenville residents and businesses safe and secure, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The provincial theme for 2020 is “Leading the Way to Safer Communities,” which aptly describes the many ways our police members help promote the safety and well-being of everyone in our community.

Police Week coincides with Peace Officers Memorial Day which is internationally recognized on May 15.

As has been the case every Monday at 7:30 pm, Council encourages everyone to make some noise from their front porches in support of our frontline workers.  It’s an opportunity to express our collective thanks to all healthcare workers, first responders, grocery store, retirement and nursing home staff and other essential employees who are keeping our community safe each and every day!”
