Supporting Local Festivals and Events in North Grenville

24 July 2020

NORTH GRENVILLE – The Ontario government is making investments towards the province’s economic recovery following the COVID-19 outbreak by investing in Ontario’s festivals and events.

The Honourable Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries and MPP for Nepean, the Honourable Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes announced today with North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford that the Kemptville Live Music Festival will receive $75,000 in funding support through the Celebrate Ontario program.

Celebrate Ontario supports festivals and events that contribute to local economies and enrich the quality of life across the province. Festivals and events are also powerful economic drivers – according to past recipients, every $1 of Celebrate Ontario funding results in almost $21 of visitor spending.

“Hyper local tourism will be the standard this summer.  It’s important for Ontarians to reconnect with their neighbours and be reminded of the beauty of our tourism, cultural and natural attractions right now,” said Minister MacLeod. “I’m confident the people of North Grenville will enjoy their summer by visiting our surrounding communities.”

“I’m proud that our government recognizes the important contributions festivals and events like Kemptville Live make to our region’s economy and how everyone involved, including hundreds of volunteers, works hard to make them happen,” said MPP Clark. “I am pleased we are continuing to support these events, which enhance our quality of life and provide a positive economic impact to our community.”

Ontario’s tourism industry will be an important component of the province’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 outbreak. Investing in the continued success of Eastern Ontario’s events through Celebrate Ontario will provide the economic support and stability our community needs.

“In just five years, Kemptville Live has become a significant event in North Grenville, attracting people from all over Eastern Ontario and beyond,” said Mayor Peckford. “While the extraordinary circumstances created by the global pandemic forced the cancellation of the music festival, along with so many other events, I have no doubt Kemptville Live will come back stronger in 2021,” added Mayor Peckford.

“The support of the Celebrate Ontario program will allow Kemptville Live Festival to remain in ready position for a successful 2021 Festival once again,” added Karen Bedard, organizer with Kemptville Live Music Festival.
