Statement from Mayor Peckford on the passing of former Reeve Howard Wilson

August 28, 2020

NORTH GRENVILLE, ON – Mayor Nancy Peckford issued the following statement on behalf of Council on the passing of former Reeve Howard Wilson:

It is with profound sadness I have learned of the passing of Howard Wilson, former Reeve of the town of Kemptville. On behalf of all residents and business leaders in North Grenville, my Council colleagues and I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Mr. Wilson’s family.

Mr. Wilson was committed to public service and his community having served on council for 13 years beginning in 1979 as Councillor for the Town of Kemptville, then as Deputy Reeve from 1983 - 1988, and subsequently serving as the Town Reeve from 1989 - 1991.

Mr. Wilson also volunteered with the Kemptville Fire Department for over 45 years. Members of the community may recall seeing him drive his 1914 fire truck in Canada Day parades of past.

In addition to his public and community service, Mr. Wilson owned and operated Howard Wilson Motors Ltd. for almost 60 years, a staple in our community.

We join in mourning the loss of an individual who, in his dedication and commitment, has helped shape our community over many decades.

North Grenville’s flags at the Municipal Centre have been lowered to half-mast in Mr. Wilson’s honour.
