North Grenville recognizes Firefighters’ National Memorial Day

September 11, 2020

North Grenville – On Sunday, September 13th, the Municipality of North Grenville will recognize Firefighters’ National Memorial Day, a day to pay tribute to the firefighters who risk their lives keeping Canadians safe. The day is also intended to remember those firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty.

“On behalf of Council and our community, I want to thank each and every one of our Firefighters for their hard work and dedication,” said Mayor Nancy Peckford. “Now, more than ever, they continue to serve our community in so many ways, despite the additional challenges that have come with COVID-19.”

The Municipality of North Grenville recognizes the many dangers firefighters often face when carrying out their duties, as well as those who have made the ultimate sacrifice with their lives in the line of duty.

“We are very grateful here in North Grenville to have such a dedicated volunteer fire service,” added Councillor Kristin Strackerjan and Emergency and Protective Services liaison.

Firefighters’ National Memorial Day is recognized annually on the second Sunday of September and commemorates their courage, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to serving our community.

Given the significance of the occasion, the flags at the Municipal Centre and Fire Hall will be set at half-mast.
