Statement by Mayor Nancy Peckford on the passing of Prince Philip

April 9, 2021

NORTH GRENVILLE, ON - Mayor Nancy Peckford issued the following statement on the passing of Prince Philip.

On behalf of myself, my Council colleagues, and the Municipality of North Grenville, I’d like to offer our deepest condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family on the loss of His Royal Highness, Prince Philip. The Duke of Edinburgh passed away peacefully at the age of 99.

Flags at the Municipal Centre have been lowered to half mast in honour of Prince Philip’s legacy and public service to the people of Great Britain.

Prince Philip was a man of conviction and was a pivotal figure in the British royal family. He will be remembered as a lifelong companion for our Queen, who was always at her side as she carried out her duties.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award – a global initiative – has helped empower millions of youth to realize their full potential.

The Duke of Edinburgh was also President Emeritus for the World Wildlife Fund.

Let us remember Prince Philip as a man of honour, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Our thoughts are with Queen Elizabeth II and members of the Royal Family during this period of mourning and significant loss.
