“On behalf of North Grenville’s Council and community, we honour all those officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty across the country, and pay our respects to the surviving family members of these brave men and women,” said Mayor Nancy Peckford.
“On this occasion, we also take the opportunity to recognize the dedication of our local Grenville OPP and our own North Grenville By-law officers who do their jobs bravely, despite sometimes dangerous and unpredictable conditions, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic,” added Councillor John Barclay and Chair of the North Grenville Police Services Board.
On September 24, 1998, the Government of Canada officially proclaimed the last Sunday of September of every year as Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day.
National Memorial Day gives Canadians an opportunity each year to formally express appreciation for the dedication of those police and peace officers who have tragically lost their lives while keeping our country’s communities safe.
