Council Invites Residents and Business Leaders to Explore Transit Options

July 25, 2022

NORTH GRENVILLE – North Grenville is completing a study to review potential options for expanded transit within the Municipality of North Grenville. North Grenville residents and business leaders are invited to take part in a virtual community session on July 28 to provide their perspectives and feedback on the future of transit services in North Grenville.

The study will review the current service, the needs of residents and businesses, and explore options for expansion.

The Municipality was asked to assume responsibility for the North Grenville Accessible Transit service in 2019 when the volunteer-led service came to an end.  In so doing, it qualified for funding from the Government of Ontario and the community’s transit service was expanded to include any senior ages 65 and over – with or without a mobility impairment.

In 2022, Council chose to reduce the one-way fares to by 50 percent to reduce barriers to access so that the cost of a round trip was just $10.

“The Municipality is now looking to see how the service can potentially be expanded to get people from a variety of ages and stages of life to where they need to go,” added Mayor Peckford. “In the absence of any privately run taxi services in the community, this is a crucial discussion about how we support seniors, youth and other vulnerable sectors.”
