Highlights of August 22 Council Meeting

Below are some highlights from the regular Municipality of North Grenville Council Meeting held on Monday, August 22, 2016:

Push for Change: North Grenville Youth Up! gave a presentation on the Push for Change campaign to end youth homelessness and outlined the events that would be taking place in the Municipality when the campaign came through on October 2nd. They outlined various ways for people to get involved such as donations, sponsorships, participating in the Barefoot Challenge and many more. Additional information on the campaign is available through the Municipal website or at www.thepushforchange.com.

Records Management Policy: Council approved a by-law to implement a new records management policy for the Municipality which will ensure continued accountability and transparency as well as continued compliance with Provincial legislation.

Transfer of Drainage Responsibilities: Council approved a by-law transferring drainage responsibilities from the Planning Department to the Public Works Department. Eric Sly is now the Drainage Superintendent and Tile Drainage Inspector in addition to his existing duties as Engineering Coordinator.

Cycling Infrastructure Funding: An agreement to authorize funding from the Province through the Ontario Municipal Cycling Infrastructure Program was approved. The funding will be used for the construction of the multi-use pathway along County Road 44 which is scheduled to begin in the late fall.

Waiving of Fees for Habitat for Humanity: Council approved the waiving of the building permit fees for the Habitat for Humanity project proposed for 400 County Road 25. More information about the project can be found at www.habitat1000islands.org.

Upcoming Planning/Public Meetings: A public meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at the North Grenville Municipal Centre on Tuesday, September 6th to hear two Zoning By-Law Amendment applications. The first application is ZBA-8-16 (319 Prescott Street) and the second application is ZBA-9-16 (1505 County Road 20).
