Fire Investigation Training Underway at Former Evergreen Motel

The North Grenville Fire Service, in conjunction with the Ontario Fire Marshal and the Eastern Ontario Association of Fire Investigators, is conducting a series of fire investigation training sessions today (April 19) and tomorrow (April 20) at the abandoned structure located at 114 County Road 44 (the former Evergreen Motel).

The unique training opportunity is sanctioned by the Ontario Fire Marshal and will involve over 100 firefighters from across Eastern Ontario.

The training will involve a series of planned, live burns with different ignition sources which will allow firefighters to see how the various sources burn and practice their investigation techniques.  There may be smoke visible as a result of the live burns, but the public are asked to not call in reports of smoke at this site during the training and to keep clear of the area for the next few days.

There will be some follow-up training at the site over the course of May and June and the plan is to have the site cleaned up and leveled sometime in July.
