Statement by Mayor Peckford on Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III

Mayor Nancy Peckford offered the following statement on the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty The Queen:

On May 6, 2023, communities throughout the Commonwealth will mark the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and her Majesty The Queen. This historic occasion will mark the first coronation of a Canadian Head of State in seven decades.

On behalf of myself, my Council Colleagues, and the Municipality of North Grenville, we wish to congratulate His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

For over fifty years, His Majesty King Charles III has had a close connection to Canada. We have no doubt that his dedication to service will provide a strong foundation from which he will continue to work toward the betterment of the Commonwealth and its people.

There will be celebrations and events across Canada to commemorate The King’s Coronation. In Ontario, in addition to an event at Queen’s Park on Saturday, May 6, major cultural attractions and provincial parks will offer free admission for day use – including Upper Canada Village.

Residents are also invited to sign the book of congratulations, which has been set up in the lobby of the North Grenville Municipal Centre.

His Majesty King Charles III acceded to the Throne on September 8, 2022, upon the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
