Curling in Rural Canada: From Community Tradition to International Stage
Curling has always been more than a pastime in rural Canada—it’s a sport woven into community pride and local tradition. Once the heart of winter recreation in small towns, curling brought neighbours together and fueled rivalries that became part of community identity. Today, those same community roots have grown into events like the Women’s Fall Classic, where local tradition meets international competition.
Event Co-Chair Ron Gallinger emphasizes the value of witnessing this high-level competition up close. “There’s so much to learn from watching these teams,” he shares. “I’m always listening closely to pick up insights and strategies. It’s inspiring for everyone in the stands, and we’re proud to share that experience right here in our community.”
