North Grenville is a growing municipality located in eastern Ontario housing a unique blend of small town and rural culture. Comprised of an urban center (Kemptville) and surrounded by several charming rural hamlets, North Grenville is situated between Canada’s National Capital – Ottawa and the St. Lawrence River, only a 30-minute drive along the Veterans Memorial Highway (416), to either destination. Alternatively, for a more leisure journey, North Grenville offers the historic Rideau River managed by Parks Canada.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Drainage and Waste Manager, this position assists with the review, operations and records management of municipal drainage features including stormwater management ponds, drainage easements, stormwater outlets, oil grit separators and municipal drains.

Qualifications:

Essential (minimum) Qualifications:
• Post-Secondary education in Engineering Technology or Technician required.
• Valid “G” license with clean driver’s abstract.

Asset (preferred) Qualifications:
• Knowledge of municipal roads, drainage, and Municipal Drains.
• Eligible for CET designation

Work Experience

Essential (minimum) Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of experience working with roads, and drainage systems.
  • Ability to complete engineering reviews of Municipal Drain records.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy in a Microsoft environment and demonstrated experience with database management, AutoCAD, GIS and other relevant software programs.
  • Superior customer service and interpersonal skills, combined with excellent written and oral and communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills and the ability to balance diverse, changing and conflicting priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Strong team and leadership abilities.

Position Description:

  • Review existing Municipal Drain documents (engineers reports, assessment schedules, etc.). Identify technical/engineering requirements related to Municipal Drains for inclusion in annual departmental work programs.
  • Assist the Drainage and Waste Manager with drainage related issues including technical review and field investigations.
  • Update Municipal Drain assessment schedules in accordance with the Drainage Act.
  • Assist with records management of municipal drainage features, including but not limited to stormwater management ponds, drainage easements, stormwater outlets, oil grit separators, and municipal drains
  • Assist the Drainage and Waste Manager in communications with outside consultants (Drainage Engineer). Assist the Drainage and Waste Manager in communications with residents (verbal, written and through scheduled meetings).
  • Maintain Municipal Drain records using GIS, AutoCAD or similar systems.
  • Assist with the liaison communication with Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA).
  • Perform site inspections of municipal drainage features, including but not limited to stormwater management ponds, drainage easements, stormwater outlets, and oil grit separators, to evaluate operations of the systems.
  • Assist with the required maintenance programs for municipal drainage features, including but not limited to stormwater management ponds, drainage easements, stormwater outlets, and oil grit separators.
  • Assist with drainage complaints, including investigations and communicating with residents and developing and implementing solutions.
  • Assist in developing and implementation of mutual drain agreements as necessary under the Drainage Act
  • Assist the Drainage and Waste Manager with operations of the waste disposal sites.
  • Participate in committee and departmental meetings, as required.
  • Perform such other duties as assigned by the Drainage and Waste Manager

Compensation:

The salary for this position is $57,603.00 to $71,999.00 annually based on a thirty-five (35) hour workweek and includes pension and benefits. Includes after office hours including evenings and/or weekends, as necessary.
