Building Permits and Fees

What is a Building Permit?

The Municipality of North Grenville Building Division issues permits for the construction, renovation and demolition of buildings as well as for certain changes of use. Ontario Building Code enforcement is carried out by the North Grenville building staff, except in the case of on-site sewage systems, which is conducted by the: Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA) 613-692-3571

Why do you need to obtain a Building Permit?

Building permits are required under the Ontario Building Code Act. By reviewing and approving building plans before any work is done, the Municipality can ensure that buildings comply with all applicable legislation and by-laws.

Zoning

What is Zoning?

Zoning is regulated by the Zoning By-Law which is a detailed land use regulatory document identifying specific provisions that may apply to the potential use of land (including buildings and structures). When reviewing development proposals and land use, Council must have regard for Provincial planning policies as well as for compliance with the Official Plan. Council may consider amendments to the Zoning By-Law in accordance with the requirements of the Ontario Planning Act.
