North Grenville is a growing municipality located in eastern Ontario housing a unique blend of small town and rural culture. Comprised of an urban center (Kemptville) and surrounded by several charming rural hamlets, North Grenville is situated between Canada’s National Capital – Ottawa and the St. Lawrence River, only a 30-minute drive along the Veterans Memorial Highway (416), to either destination. Alternatively, for a more leisure journey, North Grenville offers the historic Rideau River managed by Parks Canada.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Engineering Coordinator, the engineering student provides assistance with engineering duties for the Municipality as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • One (1) year of Engineering Program (Civil or Environmental) completed
  • Valid "G" license with clean driver's abstract
  • Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment and demonstrated experience with database management
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and GIS/GPS experience

Position Description:

  • Review development proposals, site plans, and subdivision agreements for compliance with technical design, engineering, and legislative standards
  • Identify technical/engineering requirements related to facilities, roads, landfills, water, and sewer for inclusion in annual department work programs
  • Perform construction inspections
  • Maintain roads, water, and sewer records using GIS, AutoCAD, or similar systems
  • Apply surveying techniques and undertake related paperwork
  • Participate in committee and department meetings as required

Working Conditions

  • Work is conducted in an office environment, and involves sitting or standing, often in front of a computer monitor, for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift and move objects of under 50 pounds
  • Attend meetings, and training as required
  • Some travel involved outside of the Municipality for meetings, conferences, and training as required

Compensation:

  • The salary for this position is $17.60/hour.
  • Based on a 35-hour work week. Regular office hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
