Only a 30-minute drive along the Veterans Memorial Highway (416), to either Ottawa or the 401 Corridor, providing ease of travel.

Responsibilities:

The By-law Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcing the Municipality of North Grenville’s by-laws and selected provincial legislation to support a safe, healthy, and well-regulated community. This position involves investigating complaints, conducting inspections, educating the public, and taking appropriate enforcement actions where necessary. The Officer plays a key role in ensuring community standards are upheld through fair, consistent, and customer-focused service delivery.

  • By-Law Enforcement: Enforce municipal by-laws including, but not limited to, property standards, zoning, parking, noise, animal control, and licensing regulations. Investigate complaints and conduct site inspections to determine compliance with municipal by-laws and relevant provincial statutes.
  • Public Relations & Education: Respond to inquiries and complaints from residents, property owners, and businesses in a professional and courteous manner. Provide education and information on municipal by-laws to promote voluntary compliance and community understanding.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work collaboratively with municipal departments including Building, Planning, Fire Services, Public Works and Parks and Recreation.
  • Administrative and Technical Duties: Maintain accurate electronic and written records using the Municipality’s enforcement case management system. Monitor and track enforcement activities, including complaint volumes and compliance rates, for reporting and analysis
  • Documentation & Legal Processes: Issue notices, orders, and municipal parking tickets.
  • Health, Safety, and Professional Conduct: Ensure adherence to the Municipality’s health and safety policies and safe work practices. Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity in all enforcement activities.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Education: Post-Secondary education in Law Enforcement, Law & Security, Police Foundations and/or credited training through the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers’ Association required, or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in municipal by-law enforcement or a related regulatory environment. Certification as a Municipal Law Enforcement Officer (M.L.E.O. I & II) and Property Standards Officer (C.P.S.O.) is preferred
  • Conflict Resolution: Receive and respond to inquiries and complaints while maintaining superior customer service and conflict resolution skills combined with excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Legislative Knowledge: Knowledge of the Provincial Offences Act with comprehension of initiating legal proceedings and issuing provincial offences notices or orders.
  • Credentials: Valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's License with a clean abstract, and a clear Criminal Record.

Compensation:

  • The salary range for this position is $32.35 – $40.43 per hour.
