Resident Advisory: Watch Your Wells

Resident Advisory: Watch Your Wells

North Grenville residents are reminded to conserve water and monitor private wells as drought conditions continue to affect the region.

Both South Nation Conservation Authority (SNC) and Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA) have issued low water advisories within their jurisdictions. While only certain parts of North Grenville fall within each watershed, all residents on private groundwater wells should take steps to protect their supply.

RVCA recommended actionResidents and businesses across the Rideau Valley watershed are strongly encouraged to reduce their overall water useand suspend non-essential water activities until natural supplies begin to recover.

SNC recommended action: All water users, including municipalities, residents, businesses, and farmers, are being asked to reduce water use, including the suspension of all outdoor non-essential water use.

What residents on private wells can do:

  1. Use water sparingly – limit all non-essential uses such as lawn watering, car washing, or filling pools.
  2. Monitor your well – check water levels regularly and watch for signs of reduced supply.
  3. If you are experiencing well problems, after confirming it is not a mechanical issue, contact the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks Wells Help Desk: ontario.ca/wells-your-property.
  4. Never pour water down a well. This can damage the well and contaminate groundwater.
  5. Hire only licensed contractors for well work: ontario.ca/licenced-well-contractors.
  6. Consider bulk water haulage services for water delivery and temporary storage tank rentals if needed.

North Grenville thanks residents for doing their part to protect groundwater resources and ensure a reliable water supply during these challenging conditions.
