Kemptville, ON – The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 212 Kemptville, in partnership with the Municipality of North Grenville, will host a Commemorative Dedication Ceremony for the new Lest We Forget Crosswalk on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
Located at the intersection of Prescott Street and Reuben Crescent South, the new Lest We Forget Crosswalk has been established to honour Canada’s Veterans and recognize their loyal service to King, Queen, and Country.
This specially designated pedestrian crosswalk will feature red and white bars, twin soldier silhouettes, and the inscription “Lest We Forget” stenciled at both ends. It will also include flashing amber lights and signage, similar to the crosswalk at Prescott and Asa Streets, ensuring both visibility and symbolic prominence.
Ceremony Details
Veterans and members of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 212 Kemptville are cordially invited to participate in the ceremony, alongside Mayor Nancy Peckford, North Grenville Council, and members of the community.
A Veterans Contingent will form up at 1:45 p.m. on the east sidewalk of Prescott Street at Reuben Crescent South in preparation for a Veterans Walk across the newly installed crosswalk.
Following the crossing, the Veterans will proceed along the west sidewalk of Prescott Street to the Kemptville Cenotaph, where the official ceremony will be held.
Dignitaries, Legionnaires, family, friends, and members of the general public are invited to gather on the grounds of the Kemptville Cenotaph to await the arrival of the Veterans contingent and the commencement of the official ceremony at 2:00 p.m.
Dress and Tribute
The requested dress for Veterans and Legion members is Military or Legion uniforms with medals.
Legion members who do not have a uniform, and members of the public, are encouraged to wear red as a solemn and visual tribute in recognition and support of our Veterans, and in honour of their enduring Legacy of Freedom and Democracy.
About the “Lest We Forget” Crosswalk
The Lest We Forget Crosswalk stands as a permanent symbol of gratitude and remembrance for the men and women who have served, and continue to serve, in Canada’s Armed Forces.
This initiative, funded by the Municipality of North Grenville, reflects the community’s deep respect and ongoing commitment to honouring military service and sacrifice in both war and peace.
The crosswalk’s design mirrors the colours of the Canadian flag, red and white, representing both the bloodshed in pursuit of peace and peace itself. The silhouettes of First World War soldiers serve as sentinels of remembrance, linking the crosswalk visually and symbolically to the nearby Kemptville Cenotaph, which features a statue of a young soldier standing at ease.
Together, these memorials form a powerful and enduring reminder of Canada’s military history and the freedoms earned through courage, service, and sacrifice.
