Last Aid Course
Last Aid is a compassionate, practical public education course for anyone who wants to feel more comfortable and confident talking about grief, dying, and death - and better support people they care about. When death touches our lives, many of us feel unsure of what to say or do. Last Aid helps rebuild shared understanding, offering clear, reassuring guidance for these moments.
This in-person session is tailored to the Ontario context and will cover what the dying process often looks like, including its typically peaceful and pain-free nature. Participants will learn about the goals of palliative care, how hospice and palliative services are provided, how to navigate the healthcare system, and the basics of Advance Care Planning.
The course also explores practical ways to relieve suffering, explains common signs, symptoms, and medical terms, and offers guidance on final goodbyes, cultural practices, and talking about grief - especially with children.
This session will be facilitated by Amy Tibben, Olga Nikolajev, Lynn Turnbull, and Darlene Collin.
Last Aid is offered by the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association and supported locally by Beth Donovan Hospice.
Cost: $30 (participants will be provided with course materials) Capacity: Limited to 20 participants.
