North Grenville is a growing municipality located in eastern Ontario housing a unique blend of small town and rural culture. Comprised of an urban centre (Kemptville) and surrounded by several charming rural hamlets, North Grenville is situated between Canada’s National Capital – Ottawa and the St. Lawrence River, only a 30-minute drive along the Veterans Memorial Highway (416), to either destination. Alternatively, for a more leisure journey, North Grenville offers the historic Rideau River managed by Parks Canada.

Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Drainage and Waste Manager, the position carries out capital and maintenance design, inspection, and tracking services. The Drainage Technologist will provide timely, accurate information to the Drainage and Waste Manager and will respond to the decisions and directions generated by same.
• Review drainage concerns, Municipal Drains and Municipal drainage assets for compliance with technical design, engineering, and legislative standards.
• Facilitate the identification of technical/engineering requirements related to facilities, roads, landfills, stormwater systems, water, and sewer, and incorporates cost estimates into operating and capital budgets.
• Identify technical/engineering requirements related to facilities, roads, landfills, stormwater management, water, and sewer for inclusion in annual  departmental work programs.
• Assist with the development and implementation of technical/engineering policies, procedures, and guidelines in accordance with applicable by-laws, regulations, and statutes.
• Develop and evaluate construction and service contracts, tenders, invitations to quote and requests for proposal for technical/engineering/professional services in accordance with the approved municipal procurement policy.
• Manage and direct consultants, independent contractors, and Public Works staff in the completion of approved roads, landfills, stormwater systems, facilities, water and sewer service contracts and projects.
• Maintain roads, stormwater management, water and sewer records using GIS, AutoCAD, or similar systems.
• Apply various surveying techniques and conduct analysis and interpretation.
• Assist with operational staff regarding roads, water and wastewater infrastructure maintenance, and waste disposal sites as required.
• Assist Asset Management with updating infrastructure inventories.
• Participate in committee and departmental meetings as required.

Qualifications:
• Post-Secondary education in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology or Technician required.
• Three (3) years of experience working with roads, bridges, stormwater systems, municipal water and sewer systems.
• Valid “G” license with clean driver’s abstract
• Knowledge of construction and maintenance of municipal infrastructure
• Eligible for CET designation
• Strong ability to complete engineering assessments of drainage systems and create reports with solutions for inclusion in the Municipal work plan.
• Demonstrated ability to manage service, maintenance, and/or construction contracts in a municipal environment.
• Demonstrated computer literacy in a Microsoft environment and demonstrated experience with database management, AutoCAD, GIS, and other relevant software programs.
• Superior customer service and interpersonal skills, combined with excellent written and oral and communication skills.
• Exceptional organizational and time management skills and the ability to balance diverse, changing, and conflicting priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently.

Compensation:
• The salary range for this position is $68,286.00 to $85,340.00 annually.
• Based on a 35-hour work week. Regular office hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
