Responsibilities:
This position will:
- Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day work of the fulltime, casual/seasonal staff, grant staff, volunteers, placement /summer students, etc. including planning, scheduling, work distribution, follow up and monitoring
- Lead preventative maintenance plans in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations
- Coordinate repairs and maintenance with staff and third-party vendors such as electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, fire suppression and other sub trades in accordance with municipal polices and relevant codes.
- Be aware of and ensure compliance of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Assist with resource allocation for projects and other operational requirements
- Perform administrative duties such as correspondence and reports for the facilities superintendent.
- Maintain all buildings, facilities and property under the Department’s portfolio
- O Reg. 588/17 asset management planning for facilities under the division’s control.
- Assist with the outdoor pool operation and outdoor rink portfolio.
- Operate and maintain ice making and ice maintenance equipment, HVAC systems, Building automation systems, fire protection equipment.
- Ensure compliance with the Municipality’s approved health and safety policies and procedures and any other applicable legislation relating to workplace health and safety
- Interact with various user groups of the facilities to effect smooth operation, scheduling of events or usage
- Address complaints from users, issues of fighting, vandalism, etc.
- Maintain discipline of user groups and seek redress for damages while balancing need to promote public relations and facility use
- Ensure that user injuries are investigated and reported
- Promote positive public relations within the community
- Be responsible for special arrangements as assigned by the Parks and facilities superintendent
- Undertake inspections of buildings, facilities and equipment, including lighting, /fire panel first aid kits, generators, safety stations, defibrillators
- Maintain logs regarding ice thickness, compressors, ice resurfacing, shift, water analysis, ice maintenance, ice resurfacer maintenance, parks maintenance, equipment operations checklists and any other critical matters
- Develop and enforce an effective and equitable employee schedule including absentee, leave, training and vacation planning
- Prepare reports regarding vandalism, accidents, public skating statistics, application for leave, equipment rentals expenses
- In conjunction with the Facility Superintendent, establishes and maintains practices designed to train, develop and motivate employees
- Assist with the preparation of the recruitment process including preparing interview questions and testing if required and scheduling interviews with the Parks and Facilities Superintend
- Order and purchase safety apparel, equipment and parts for machinery, cleaning supplies and maintain arena inventories
Education/Specialized Training/Skills:
Essential (minimum) Qualifications:
- Secondary Graduation Diploma (or equivalent) with possession of technical training in a specialized field of maintenance.
- Post secondary education in recreation and leisure services, and or recognized trade certification.
- Certified Ice Technician designation (CIT)
- Basic refrigeration certificate
- Demonstrated knowledge of chemicals and their use for facility maintenance and operation
- Demonstrated knowledge of artificial ice operations, refrigeration and equipment operations
- Demonstrated knowledge of B-52 Mechanical refrigeration code
- Valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s license
- WHMIS, CPR and First Aid.

Asset (preferred) Qualifications:
- Understanding of the maintenance and operations of multi-purpose and multi-use facilities, ice arenas, public meeting and assembly spaces, parks and other recreational facilities
- Certified Building technician designation
- Certified Arena Refrigeration plant technician designation
Work Experience:
Essential (minimum) Qualifications:
- Five (5) years related experience in a municipal Facilities environment.
- Experience in multipurpose facilities maintenance and asset management
Asset (preferred) Qualifications:
- Marketing, event planning and facilities scheduling experience
- Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills, with a key focus on customer service excellence
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Computer proficiency and sound working knowledge of information technology
- Strong leadership ability combined with strong organizational, financial, management and analytical skills
- Strategic thinking and project management skills
Compensation:
- The salary range for this position is $31.65/hr - $39.56/hr for a 40-hour work week.
Working Conditions:
- Evening, night and weekend hours are required.
- Typical shift 6 am to 2:30 pm and or evening shift 3:30 to 11:30
- Fill operational shifts as required to meet shift requirements
- Attend meetings, training and conferences as required
- Participate in the on call /after hours schedule
