Mayor Nancy Peckford offered the following statement on May 5 to mark the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Two-Spirited People (MMIWG):

Today is a day we honour Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people who have gone missing, had their lives taken too soon, or continue to experience violence. We also honour the families and Survivors who have had the courage to share their painful experiences.

NORTH GRENVILLE, ONTARIO - Recognizing North Grenville's commitment to data-driven decision-making, the Municipality has received its second consecutive Platinum Certification from the World Council on City Data (WCCD) for implementing ISO 37120 – the first international standard for city data. North Grenville joins a network of over 30 Canadian and 100 municipalities globally within the WCCD network that collect, share and use data to make effective and transformative decisions. This Platinum Certification is the highest level of recognition by the WCCD and underlines the Municipality's commitment to high-calibre, globally standardized and independently verified city data.

NORTH GRENVILLE, ON – On September 30th at 12:00pm, North Grenville’s Council will raise the Every Child Matters Flag to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. NORTH GRENVILLE, ON - On Tuesday, February 1, 2022, Council adopted its first ever Indigenous Land Acknowledgement as a step towards reconciliation in support of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action released in 2015.

Data shows that North Grenville is only second to Reykjavík, Iceland in the world for per capita outdoor recreation space.

NORTH GRENVILLE, ON - Mayor Peckford and Council are appealing to Minister Sylvia Jones, Ontario’s Solicitor General, for more clarity regarding the potential financial impacts on North Grenville’s taxpayers regarding policing costs resulting from the future correctional facility scheduled for 2027, and announced by the province in August 2020.

NORTH GRENVILLE, ON – Council has heard a variety of perspectives on the proposed provincial correctional facility. While there are definitely some vocal opponents, there are many others who are either neutral or supportive. As Mayor and Council, our job is to plan for all outcomes and ensure the greatest benefit to our community. To do otherwise would be irresponsible.
